Blog: Thoughts on a Last Supper Folk Art Sculpture

Thoughts on a Last Supper Folk Art Sculpture

- by Jan Buerge

One of Lonnie and my favorite folk art pieces from years ago is a "Last Supper" clay sculpture from Ocumicho, Mexico.

It's certainly not perfect - there are some cracks and repaired breaks - some rough edges and paint that is missing.
And yet it really depicts for me the community and humanity of this experience and in a setting of another culture. Differences from some of our traditions? Yes. Differences from some of our faiths or philosophies? Of course.
But it contains elements so important to all of us - community, sharing traditions and food, hands reaching to help or in meditation, human emotions of surprise, sadness and fear.

May we all continue to celebrate our one-ness and our similarities AND our differences and our humanity.
